For Immediate Release.

A day after world number three and US Open Champion Rory McIlroy set the course record 64 on the Jack Nicklaus designed Lake Malaren course in Shanghai, Korean Noh Seung–Yul managed one better. Noh, who started the day even par after his first round, played an immaculate, if not careful round, to record 9 birdies for a remarkable 63 and a two day total of 135.

In a post round interview, he explained his approach and strategy, "I have hurt my ankle, not been able to practice too much and also not able to swing as hard as I would like. I just decided to be careful with how I played." Pushed to say what was working with the bad ankle and little practice he said," I putted well and chose good options which obviously helped my score, I think the course suits me as well."

Overnight leader Rory McIlroy, despite a mixed front nine extended his lead, recording a 69 and 11 under for the tournament with a two shot lead over Noh on 133. McIlroy who dropped three shots on the front nine, including a double bogey on the most difficult hole on the course, the 481 yard par 4 ninth, regained his game and finished the day with 4 birdies and a back nine score of 32. "I liked the birdie on 18, and had a good back nine. To shoot 4 birdies kept me going after the double bogey on the ninth." He went on to explain "On the ninth I hit my tee shot into the water and tried to make par to recover but ended up with a double. I know my 64 from yesterday has already been replaced by Noh and his 63, but will try hard to keep hitting the birdies needed to win this weekend."

Sitting tied for third place is 2010 British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen and American Anthony Kim on 136 with Hunter Mahan and Padraig Harrington a shot further back on 137. Of his round Kim said, "I am very pleased with 68 and to be 8 under for the event is very good for me right now. I guess I will have to look at my birdie game, as we all know what Rory has been doing out there."

Oosthuizen who made the most significant move, after Noh, with an unblemished score that included 6 birdies and a tie for third place said, "I thought I played well yesterday but the putts were not dropping. I went to the putting green last evening and practiced and felt more comfortable today."

World number two Lee Westwood said in his post round interview that he would have to improve over the next few days to stand a chance, "Although I haven't played that well this week, dropping a few shots, I would like to think that at 5 under I am still in with a shout. I have come back from this far before but will have to play better to mount a challenge."

Other scores included Ian Poulter and Robert Karlsson on 138. John Daly, who had 7 birdies but 5 bogies in an up and down day has kept in sight of the leaders and joins Westwood, Colin Montgomerie and Charl Schwartzel on 139.

Huang Wen Yi recorded the best round for Chinese players outscoring his experienced playing partners KJ Choi of Korea and Geoff Ogilvy of Australia with a five birdie round of 67 to take him to 4 under, he is joined by Retief Goosen, Keegan Bradley and Paul Casey all on 140.
KJ Choi and Ogilvy both shot 70 and are on 143 after two days.

With no cut in the 30 man field all players will play through to the weekend.
The US$5 million prize money event for the 30 man field continues tomorrow finishing on  Sunday 30 November. And play commences at 9:30. Members of the public are welcome on all four days of the event in Shanghai North European Luodian New Town Project, Baoshan District.
